The site is currently closed for the winter.

Excavations at East Farleigh usually start at the end of April and continue throughout the summer, finally finishing around the end of September, depending on the weather. Digging at the site is on a Sunday from 10am until 4pm. There is sometimes an additional weekday opportunity, depending on demand and availability of supervisors. If you can't manage a whole day, don't worry, arrangements are fairly informal and we are happy for you to give as much time as you are able. We have the facility to store equipment at the site and tools can be provided, although for those who wish to come regularly we would recommend investing in your own trowel.

There will be one or more supervisors on site and instruction can be given to those new to archaeology. Please be aware that although we try and prepare trenches in advance with a mechanical digger, the digging can be physically demanding.

There are no toilet facilities on site but there is no shortage of trees. A flask of something to drink and a packed lunch are recommended.

We do not charge a daily excavation fee, however there is a small annual fee to join the Group which is a requirement. The current joining fee is £6 a year or £9 for a family membership.
